Little Sisters and Residents participate in “Virtual Run” with Move 2 IncluDE
Due to quarantine restrictions of COVID-19, the Little Sisters of the Poor are unable to host their 2020 Nun Run 5k event at Jeanne Jugan Residence. Every year our Residents look forward to this high-spirited event and it was understandable that our elderly family was disappointed with the news of “No Nun Run” at Jeanne Jugan Residence.
For the past three years, Move 2 IncluDE participated in our Nun Run by providing adaptive chairs for our elderly Residents. With very little coaxing, Steve Sinko and his team from Move 2 IncluDE agreed to share their adaptive chairs with our Residents and Little Sisters in a “virtual run” at our Home on August 26. Our Residents wanted to relay to our future Nun Run fans and participants that they will “see you next year” for the 2021 Nun Run at Jeanne Jugan Residence.
Message from Steve Sinko and team: “It’s been a long time since these chairs have held so many smiling and laughing people! We were so glad for the chance to visit today with the wonderful staff and Residents of the Jeanne Jugan Residence. The Nun Run 5K is one of the highlights of our race schedule, but we are taking a break from races for the rest of the year in a nod to caution.
Today, we caught a glimpse of why the Nun Run is such a good time. It’s hard to say who had more fun – the Residents in the chairs or the staff who pushed them. And while we observed all social distancing protocols, we will admit that some people were more competitive than others!
Please don’t forget to check up on those you care about during this time. It’s been challenging for many of the Residents here who feel isolated after missing their usual group activities and entertainment. We were glad to be able to put a smile on their faces!”
